Dog Treats to Keep 'Em Cool

Cool Your Dog Down with Homemade Treats

Saw some pretty cool (literally) ideas on Pinterest for some frozen doggie treats. Thought I'd share them with you. These would be a great way to cool 'em down quick.

You can see the first 3 on my Pinterest Board, Love Dogs

If you read last week's post, you know how quickly a dog can get overheated and get dangerously sick.  If you suspect your dog is getting too hot, it's really important to cool them down as soon as you can - even BEFORE you call your vet.

One great way to do that is give them some frozen treats.  Here's 4 recipes for making your own Frozen Doggie Treats.  Give them these and they'll love you forever!

Frozen Doggie Treats to Cool 'Em Down

DOGGIE POPSICLE

Fill a small bucket (like an ice cream bucket or children's pail) with water and a few of your dog's toys and freeze it.   Put it outside on a hot day

DOGGIE FROZEN YOGURT CUPS

18 oz plain lowfat yogurt

1/2 c peanut butter (preferably low salt)
1 T honey
One jar (4 oz) banana baby food
Mix together & freeze in Dixie cups.  Make sure to take it out of the paper cup before giving it to your pooch.

YOGURT PEANUT BUTTER BANANA PEEPS

Mix 32 oz of unflavored yogurt with 2 T peanut butter,
2 T honey, and a ripe, mashed banana.

Freeze in an ice cube tray or empty egg carton.

These work great as bite-size treats.

DOGGIE CHICKEN BROTH CUBES

Freeze some of your leftover chicken broth (fat skimmed off) in an ice cube tray.
If you need your trays back, store them in a Ziploc freezer bag.
Dogs love these whether they're hot or not.
